gender and queer theory and cultural studies.
She is the author of several books including
Female Masculinity , The Drag King Book and In a
Queer Time and Place.
ABOUT PAPERWALL: analYZING IMAGES:
In the past decade, a new movement of queer
cultural production has solidified a space for
itself in the independent art world. This
movement borrows from the history of queer art,
while creating its own language of imagery.
Influenced by punk rock and DIY culture, the
aesthetic of queer cultural producers has been
decidedly political and has maintained a critical
stance towards mainstream Gay and Lesbian
identity. PAPERWALL: analYZING IMAGES is a
multimedia exhibition of queer art works from
across North America. The show will feature the
works of over 30 contemporary and emerging queer
artists and activists. There will be several
components to the exhibit:
- A poster art show featuring queer posters and prints
- A zine display
- A collection of queer video and film works
-WHEN QUEERS WERE QUEERS, a button and patch
making station
- A special appearance by Lesbians on Ecstacy
- A discussion about queer cultural production
lead by Judith "Jack" Halberstam and featuring
participating artists
- An after-party at ZOO BIZARRE 6388 St-Hubert

I got stuff to do ce soir, but I could meet you at the after-party (tis in my hood, you see -- in an apartment remodeled into cavern . . .)
If not lets have Sunday brunch.
Ummm, hi, isn't this the event I invited you to last week that you kinda scoffed at? I was at Halberstam's lecture last night. Brilliant. And she's outrageously hot.
Actually I remember now. In the interests of at least somewhat accurate reporting on my part, there was no scoffage, just a long maaaaybe. Then again, I'm not sure what I had for lunch, so who can really say.
hmmm.. in the interests of drunk reportage. I believe i did not scoff the lecture but did say I wasn't interested in attending. I was however interested in the art (which I went to see) and the afterparty at which I drank a great deal too much, and still did not score, although my friends seemed to be having a good time.
so that is the deal, no academics just booze and oddly enough a copy of girlie prig #11 (remember karens old 'zine) in the gallery. A sad reminder of how little has changed but how much time has passed.
How was the lecture?
